An Orlando Florida traffic stop escalated after police discovered the driver had a suspended license and told her she was under arrest. She refused to get out of the vehicle, repeatedly telling officers she would not comply.
The encounter began after an Orlando police officer said he saw the driver run a stop sign while holding a phone and a cup of coffee. During the stop, the officer discovered that her license had been suspended and ordered her out of the vehicle. She refused, even after officers explained that she was under arrest and warned that they would remove her from the SUV if necessary.
What started as a traffic violation quickly became a standoff over a simple command to step out of the car.
She was ultimately charged with resisting without violence and driving with a suspended license. She was also issued a $164 citation for running the stop sign.
