Atlas Ioka reacts to police bodycam footage showing a Dayton police officer being shot in the head during an investigation involving suspected counterfeit money.
What begins as an attempted detention escalates within seconds when the suspect opens fire. Despite suffering a gunshot wound to the head, Officer Thadeu Holloway remains conscious, calls for assistance, directs nearby civilians to safety, warns responding officers about the suspect's weapon, and continues communicating until help arrives.
The bullet struck Holloway's temple and traveled beneath the skin before exiting the back of his head. Both Holloway and the wounded suspect survived. Holloway later received multiple awards for his actions and ultimately medically retired after experiencing lasting effects from his injuries.
